Purpose

Office Hours:

Flexible Schedule Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 - 5:00.

The primary responsibility for this position will be to conduct the annual provider audits.  However, other audit duties may also be assigned. Responsible to review the health record, electronic reports, and other reporting tools to identify conditions treated and the services provided to each patient. Utilize the appropriate coding systems to accurately code diagnoses, services, and procedures performed by physicians and other providers performing billable services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma required.
Certification as a Professional Coder or successful completion of a similar certification program or 2 years Revenue Cycle experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Detail oriented.

Organized.

Ability to analyze and enter data required.

Word processing skills required.

Good written and oral communication skills are required. Part of the role will be interacting with providers for training and education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of professional coding experience preferred.

Certified Professional Coder or similar certification preferred specializing in Family Practice.

Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) specializing in Family Practice.  If not a CPMA, should have auditing experience.


Typical Physical Demands:  Work will require sitting for long periods of time, stooping, bending and stretching for files and/or supplies.  Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type, operate a telephone, fax machine, and other such necessary office equipment.  Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing within normal range.  Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.  Will be necessary to view and type on a computer screen for long periods of time.

Typical Working Condition:  Work is performed in an office environment.  Most work will be performed using a computer.

Potential Exposures:  Alcohol-based hand sanitizers, hand soap, copier toner

Expectations of Position – to include but not limited to:

1.     Self-motivation and works independently on tasks assigned.

2.     Adequate knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding.

3.     Understanding of HCC codes.

4.     This job requires access to PHI.  HIPAA training is required and HIPAA compliance is expected.

5.     Follow procedures according to OSHA.

6.     Follow procedures according to FPC protocol.

7.     Performs related work as required.

Examples of Duties – to include but not limited to:

1.     Verify submission or proper use of HCC codes

2.     Verify chart documentation supports diagnosis assigned

3.     Appropriate communication with medical providers

4.     Answer provider/staff questions regarding appropriate coding

5.     Provide training sessions on coding to providers

6.     Chart data extraction and data entry
